Melted Crayon Art!

09:45 Natalie Karine 0 Comments

Hi again! February's been such a fun, creative month at school! Look at the latest project we made, inspired by a wonderful idea found on this blog! Since February's artist of the month is Andy Warhol, we thought that this Crayola project fit in nicely! (replace Campbell's soup cans with Crayola crayons!)

    What you'll need:
               ✏ Canvas
               ✏ Crayola crayons
               ✏ Hot glue-gun
✏ Hair dryer or heat gun

Look how wonderful this turned out! We let the kids pick pout their crayons, draw a little on the canvas and place the crayons however they liked on the canvas (we hot-glued them on for them.) Then we just melt them with a heat source... and voilà! Awesome abstract, pop-art-esque original artworks!

DIY Framed Jewelry Organizer

06:31 Natalie Karine 0 Comments

I recently discovered The Modcloth blog and it's full of fun little DIY projects like this one. This organizer is so handy for picking out what I'll wear in the morning! I decided to make my own version of their jewelry organizer with a hot glue gun (If you don't have one, you should seriously invest... So worth it!) It took me a whole 15 minutes to make! Woo hoo!

Oh and make sure to get an old fun frame next time your thrift store shopping! You never know when it'll come in handy!

I hope you enjoy this fun little project! ♡

① Glue batting on thick cardboard or frame backing. ② Flip cardboard over and place on fabric wrong side up. cut corners. ③ Fold all the edges over and glue down. Make sure that fabric is nice and taunt. ④ Glue in place inside the frame and voilà! You're done! Now you can use straight pins to display your jewelry!

Warningif you start looking at the dresses featured on Modcloth, you might not be able to resist and you'll probably end up with a 50$ dress in your mailbox a week later. Oops!
(Psst... wanna see it?)

Birthdays, Collages and Coupons.

13:41 Natalie Karine 0 Comments

This Saturday is my mom's birthday and every year, I get faced with the same dilemma: What do I get the woman who has everything?! She really does... ask anyone who knows her! So why not something that money can't buy?! A fancy girls day..... with me!

I decided to make these fun coupons (and exercise my photoshop skills)! The first one is for a brunch at the best joint in town! The second coupon is for a manicure and pedicure from the place down the street! I'll get one too (never had either done) and place a gift certificate in the card to cover mom's!

Oh and put it all in this lovely handmade cupcake card (so fun and fast to make!) with that cute collage (of her and me as a baby), throw in some chocolates.... and ta-dam! Another succesful birthday gift! Bonne fête maman!!! ♥

Can't wait for my fancy day with mom!

DIY Bird Valentines!

15:35 Natalie Karine 0 Comments

Valentine's Day is around the corner and I don't know if you're like me, but I have about 25 valentines to make! (Mostly for my sweet and adorable students!) So I wanted to make a simple design with maximum cuteness! Success! I made 'em all in under 2 hours! Wanna make em!? SO EASY!

You'll need:
     ❧ White cardstock
❧ Black and red construction paper
     ❧ Markers
❧ Glue, scissors, and hole punch

① Cut and fold paper to form a square card. ② Cut and paste simple bird outline. Cut out a bunch at once by folding a strip of paper multiple times and cut through all the layers at once. ③ Cut and paste a small heart. ④ Punch out a hole in the cardstock and use the little dot for an eye! ⑤ Add the finishing touches with markers, a bubble, a small heart, legs and a border! Voilà!

Handmade wrapping paper

17:52 Natalie Karine 0 Comments

Doing art projects in a school usually calls for some clever craftiness and working under a tight budget. So when it came to wrapping our adorable Valentine's Day gifts, my co-worker suggested that we make our own wrapping paper... Brilliant! We got the kids to play around with some red and white paint on painting paper (costs next to nothing!)! Then these beautiful (mostly abstract) paintings were turned into awesome gift wrap! We even got them to make little tags with their name with the extra paper!

Oh and the best part? It was made with ♥
Before and after! WOW!
All a little different and extra special!

A jar for Mom & Dad..... adorable!
So Valentine's Day is approaching and while I'm not a big fan of Hallmark cards, I do think it's important to tell the incredible people in your life how much you appreciate them!

My colleague found this AMAZING craft online and we decided to do it with our students! Amazing how you can transform spice jars from the dollar store into the most adorable gift in the world. These kid's parents' hearts will MELT!

Who is important to you and why? Doesn't matter if you're single! Friends and family are pretty amazing...Tell them! ♥

Before the transformation!
All done! Ready to be wrapped up!

Warhol portraits for kids!

09:25 Natalie Karine 0 Comments

Andy Warhol is our new artist of the month at school! To kick off this new month of Pop Art we created some fun portraits "à la Warhol!" Beautiful! Simply print four of the same picture on a sheet of paper from a b&w laser printer and ask the kids to color on top of their portrait! Voilà!

Oh and of course we showed them some "silly" and colorful Andy Warhol artwork first for inspiration! We also established that Cheestrings would be today's Campbell's soup cans. Heh! Life in a preschool is pretty awesome.

Happy Saturday ♥
The artist is 5 yrs old! AMAZING!

I Whaley Miss You.

19:03 Natalie Karine 0 Comments

I'm pretty lucky to have some amazing people in my life. Over the years, it seams that some friends have dispersed a little, moving away to start new adventures. Recently, my bestest gal Lolo moved to another city. I miss her like crazy. At least we can send each other letters and surprises like these ones through the mail! I made her a special mix cd and check out the cover..... I WHALEY miss you! and there's a whale! Hah!

Do you have someone you care about? Send them something special and make their day! Who doesn't love finding a surprise in their mailbox!?
