Coffee Filter Earth

Happy Earth Day!

Not only did i get a free coffee at Starbucks for bringing my own mug today, but the earth lovin' also spread to the kids at school! The kids were so excited to help out our planet by cleaning up our school yard. We also had some good talks about garbage and the importance of recycling. Check out our adorable little craft in honour of our beautiful planet's special day... coffee filter earths!

Materials
  ❧ Round coffee filters
  ❧ Black paper
  ❧ White tempera paint
  ❧ Toothbrush
  ❧ Washable markers
  ❧ Spray bottle (water)
 ❧  Scissors
  ❧ Glue

Instructions:
Earth: Cut out the middle circle in the coffee filter. Draw with blue and green markers. Next, spray a bit of water and watch the colors mix and give a "tie-dye" effect.
Space background: dip a tooth brush in white paint (you can water it down a little) and with your fingers, "fling" the paint onto a black piece of paper, and watch as your mini-cosmos takes shape! Let dry and glue down your Earth! Voilà!

This one looks like a marble!
Prehistoric? When all the continents were together?

DIY Infinity scarf

12:44 Natalie Karine 0 Comments

Hi there! I've been sewing up a storm on this rainy saturday afternoon. I purchased some fun polka dot jersey material yesterday for about $9 in the hopes of making my own infinity scarf. I basically sewed the whole length (with right sides facing each other) to make a long tube. Then sewed the 2 shorter ends together to make a big circle. The seams are hidden inside and it looks great! Oh and it only took 20 minutes! Hooray! Now get to your fabric store and raid those  cheap leftover fabric ends bins!

What you need
  ✄ 1.5 m jersey fabric
  ✄ Sewing machine
  ✄ thread

Here's a great tutorial I inspired myself from:

All you need to do is sew in a straight line!

Looks great...and under $10!

So apparently I've hiding under a rock and missed internet sensation GRUMPY CAT. I love this little girl. Every time I see her face I want to laugh and hold her. Here's Grumpy cat...for those of you who don't know! She even has a website...

So it was my friend's birthday tonight, the one responsible for my encounter with the most amazing cat in the world. He loves cats, has one named Oliver, so I thought hey! let's make him a grumpy cat card and cat head magnets! Verdict: He loved it! Hooray!

Cat birthday combo!

Felted Flowers Wreath

18:38 Natalie Karine 0 Comments

I had a fun morning yesterday... making a new wreath! The best part of it? It cost me a whole 79 cents. I bought a foam tube from the hardware store, duct-taped it into a circle and wrapped beautiful ribbons and yarn around it! I decorated it with Felted Flowers I made and added things from my craft bin! Awesome!

Materials
❀ Foam tube from hardware store
  ❀ Duct tape
  ❀ Felt - various colors
❀ Buttons, beads & fake flowers
  ❀ Ribbon and yarn
  ❀ Tacky glue
  ❀ Scissors
  ❀ Needle and thread

Step 1: Tape your tube into a circle
Step 2 - Wrap some yarn and ribbon around the whole thing.
Secure ends with glue.
All wrapped up!
Step 3 - Make some felted flowers. See the easy tutorial here.
Add anything else: beads, fake flowers, birds, butterflies...
Anything you want!
Love birds closeup!
My door is soooo fancy now... and ready for Spring! ♥
