Magic Potion!

Hi there! Today, we had a Halloween-themed day for our "funky Fridays" (because, why not!?) and we made some magical wands and magic potion!

For the wands we used cardstock and ribbons, as well as a branch or shishkabob stick.

Then we said a magic spell and watched as our potion came to life. We used a vinegar solution with food coloring in it and mixed in some baking soda! I found this nice little video and it looks like if you add in some dish soap, it'll even bubble! I wish I would've known!
Materials: a jar, a spoon, vinegar, baking soda, food coloring (optional: dish soap)

▪ 5x7 card
▪ 4x6 piece of christmas scrapbooking paper
▪ bear cut out

They then got to decorate them with their imagination.... and a sharpie!
Here's how they turned out: I LOVE THEM!!! GAH!!! (C'est trop mignon!)

Kawaii Shrink Art

Hey again! I had a pretty fun time organizing crafts for my coworker's very crafty daughter's birthday party. She had her birthday party yesterday and wanted some crafts that weren't too "childish". We made some sweet Unicorn Dreamcatchers but I wanted another project they could do afterwards that didn't involve as many materials, so I went to my go-to Shrink Art that kids ALWAYS love. I get the clear stuff from DeSerres and sand it a little to be able to use colouring pencils on them. The kids LOVED this project. I found a bunch of Kawaii (cute japanese) images on-line and then they trace it onto their piece of Shrink Art! We had everything from kawaii cupcakes, pandas, unicorns, you name it! Just search ________ Kawaii on-line and you'll find adorable images. Then, we added a little metal jump hoop and a key-ring and turned them into keychains after! Hooray!

Materials: coloring pencils, x-thin black sharpies, scissors, key-rings, hole puncher, metal jump hoop, key-ring and Shrink Art (or Shrinky Dinky, found at you local craft store).

Instructions:
① Draw your image on the rough side of your Shrink Art piece. if it's the clear stuff, place your favorite image underneath and trace it!
② Trace the outline with a black sharpie.
③ Cut your shape out and punch a hole. *Don't forget this step. It'll be impossible to do once it's shrunken and thicker.
④ Bake at 325°F for 2 minutes, until completely shrunken and FLAT
⑤ String it onto a key-ring, earrings, a necklace, whatever you like!
Watching it Shrink!
Tracing onto the Shrink Art plastic
All shrunken and adorable!!!

Unicorn Dreamcatchers

Hey ya'll! I had a pretty fun fun time organizing some crafts for my coworker's very crafty daughter. She had her birthday party yesterday and wanted some crafts that weren't too "childish". So I went to my go-to Shrink Art that kids ALWAYS love. I get mine from DeSerres and sand it a little to be able to use colouring pencils on them. I also wanted to find a special project that would take a while to make and that I can't do with a large number of student in a classroom (a little guilty pleasure). After some research of Pinterest, I found some Unicorn Dreamcatchers. I was a bit reluctant since it is a traditional aboriginal craft, but I made sure to tell the kids the background info on it and told them it wasn't a real one.

They turned out so great!

Milk Carton Gingerbread House

Hi there! It's the last week of school and we are very busy crafting! The students finished their gifts for their parents yesterday, and they are just ADORABLE!

We made little gingerbread houses from milk cartons (that the kids drink at school) and then popped in a little electric candle to turn them into little glowing homes! So cute!

Make sure to clean them really well and let them dry before starting the craft.

We sanded the milk cartons to remove the wax, then painted them brown.
After, we cut out 3 windows and a door ( to insert the candle)
We glued the tops shut to make the roofs.
We cut out the scalloped roof and layered it up!
The kids decorated the house with pompoms, foams stickers and glitter!
Here is the template I created for the roof. :
I photocopied this on 8.5 x 11 letter sized paper.
