Keepsake crafts are awesome little projects that will be treasured forever. I love it when I find a project that I did 20 years ago as a kid... It blows my mind! At school, for Valentines Day we decided to make keepsake handprints for the kids to give to their parents! We used easy to make and inexpensive salt dough, baked them and painted them! What a perfect little gift for mom and dad!
Salt dough recipe
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup salt
1 cup water
Instructions
Mix the flour and salt in a large bowl. Gradually add water and stir. Once the mixture turns into a big clump you can transfer it to a hard surface and knead it. This will warm and stretch the dough to make it soft and minimize the formation of cracks during baking. The kids loved doing this (I called it folding/squishing). Take a nice big chunk and make a ball. them flatten it with a plate so that it's nice and even. Now gently press your hand in it!
Bake at 200℉ for 3-4 hours. For the really thick ones I even did up to 6 hours. Don't worry if they are rock hard, these guys will eventually just air dry!
Paint your handprint and voilà ! Admire your tiny hand forever! You can even make a Handprint Heart Card to go along with it!
